Lead Animator - Open

R&D Rigging Programmer -  Open

The Lead Animator will be responsible for the creation of 3D character animation, that meets the originality, creative and technical quality standards of our projects. Mentors and sets the example to others. 

  • Demonstrate a broad range of character animation and acting skills. This includes a deep understanding of the principles of animation, and how to best employ those principles to create performance that supports both the characters and story goals of our projects. 
  • The creation of character animation in a variety of stylistic genres, from cartoon to realistic, mechanical to fluid, humanoid to creature. 
  • Demonstrate total mastery of animation skills within a specific genre.

Salary between £60,000 - £75,000 depending on experience.

Lead Animator

R&D Rigging Programmer

We’d love you to do this:

  • Help us build the next generation of rigging tools.
  • Design, implement, and support a mixture of proprietary, open-source, and third-party software for Rigging, Animation, and Technical Animation workflows.
  • Collaborate with artists, technical directors, and supervisors to determine the Rigging, Animation, and Technical Animation needs for our current and future productions.
  • Identify and optimize bottlenecks in Rigging and Animation algorithms and workflows.
  • Design, implement, and support workflows for our customers that interface with Rigging and Animation.
  • Design and implement solutions targeting current production workflows, while ensuring they can be generalized for all productions when possible.
  • Document, test, and debug tools to ensure they meet production requirements.
  • Write clear documentation for tools, scripts, and plugins.
  • Provide secondary technical support, training, and tutorials to artists and production staff.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends for Rigging and Animation workflows.

You’ll probably need this:

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Animation, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of Rigging and Animation algorithms.
  • Experience writing software in C++ and Python.
  • Experience developing for Maya in both C++ and Python.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills.
  • Proactive with proven ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or a related field a plus.
  • Professional character rigging experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Maya a plus.
  • Qualified applicants should have 3-5 years experience developing software in a film production or a AAA video game environment.
